About Me

I am the Rudolph Lamone Chair in Entrepreneurship and Strategy, and the Director of the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets at the University of Maryland.

What I Do

I am passionate about upward mobility, within and integrating across the intellectual, psychological and economic realms. My scholarship uses an interdisciplinary lens to provide insights on strategic innovation for new venture creation and for firm renewal. My teaching and engagement in growth-oriented firms help business professionals advance through personal leadership, develop win-win relationships, and create a virtuous spiral between their aspirations and abilities.

Among the many awards I have received for my scholarship, teaching and service, most notable are the Davis Productivity Award from the State of Florida, the "University Scholar" designation by the University of Illinois, the "Graduate Mentor of the Year" Award by University of Maryland, and in Fall 2017, University of Maryland's prestigious Distinguished Scholar Teacher Award.

Research

My research examines the implications of entrepreneurship and innovation for industry and firm evolution. My recent projects link knowledge diffusion among firms, industries, and regions to the underlying mechanisms of employee entrepreneurship and mobility. I have taught a wide range of courses in strategic management, entrepreneurship, technology and innovation, industrial organization and microeconomics. Consistent with my interests in innovation, I strive to incorporate the latest pedagogical technologies to create programs for the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit, and to provide the skills, savvy and moral ground for the producer and value creator.
